Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has returned to training ahead of his team’s Premier League game against Leicester City on Sunday. The 26-year-old England international has been out since suffering an ankle injury in Liverpool’s Champions League defeat to Paris St-Germain in March.

Comeback with no clear timeframe

Liverpool boss Arne Slot has previously said he expected Alexander-Arnold back before the end of the season, but without specifying exactly when. Now it seems that the return is imminent.

Alexander-Arnold’s return comes at a time when there is still uncertainty about his future at the club.

According to BBC Sport, he is in final negotiations with Real Madrid over a Bosman transfer to the Bernabéu in the summer, when his contract with Liverpool expires.

Liverpool can secure the league title on Sunday

Liverpool are currently 13 points ahead of second-placed Arsenal with six games remaining.

They can secure their 20th league title with a win against Leicester – but then Arsenal will have to lose to Ipswich earlier that day. If not, they will have to wait another round.
