Trent Alexander-Arnold could surprise everyone with Liverpool 180° after unexpected “turnaround” in Real Madrid saga

The deal is not yet in place, and Alexander-Arnold could stay with the likely Premier League champions

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s exit from Liverpool has suddenly been called into question.

Liverpool fans have resigned themselves to the fact that they will lose the right-back, who has been at his childhood club for over 20 years, when his contract expires at the end of the season. The Reds are on the verge of their second Premier League title and have this month announced new lucrative deals for both Mohamed Salah and captain Virgil van Dijk.

Alexander-Arnold is expected to leave in the summer, having won everything there is to win with Liverpool – and being tempted by the challenge of playing for Real Madrid. However, according to reports, the English star’s move to the Spanish capital is not as inevitable as Liverpool’s upcoming league title.

Ancelotti farewell could change everything

Former Manchester United scout Mick Brown has told Football Insider that the expected sacking of Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti is changing the picture. According to Brown, Ancelotti was instrumental in luring Alexander-Arnold to the Bernabéu, and Football Insider now reports that “the 26-year-old is reportedly questioning and has started to doubt the transfer” as a result of the situation.

“The right-back is also under pressure from fans and the club to stay at Anfield.”

With no signed deal, Alexander-Arnold has the luxury of choice. A decision to join Real Madrid based solely on a manager involves obvious risks, and Ancelotti was hardly the only factor in the player’s assessment.

A reunion with Jürgen Klopp is just one of several possible outcomes.

“There’s a chance he’ll be”

“I think there’s a possibility he will stay at Liverpool,” Brown said.

“This has been going on all season, there’s been so much talk, but nothing has been signed yet.”

“To me, it looks like Madrid are entering a rebuilding phase and that will create uncertainty for Trent Alexander-Arnold – he might not fit in under a new manager.”

Time in England over?

Alexander-Arnold has won both the Premier League and Champions League in a Liverpool shirt, but perhaps believes that the time has come to end his stay in England’s top division and prove himself at one of the few clubs that can test his abilities further.

He scored the goal that put Liverpool one win away from the league title in Sunday’s game against Leicester City – and revealed nothing (and at the same time everything) in his on-pitch interview after the game.
