At the beginning of the month, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer led Besiktas to the victory that made headlines inside and outside Turkey. Undefeated Galatasaray with an unstoppable Victor Osimhen at the top, was stopped by the “Eagle of the North”. Now the next big game awaits Solskjaer, a game that brings with it a loaded history. On Friday, Besiktas picked up the pace before the meeting with Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce.
Solskjaer and the Besiktas players have struggled in the Süper Lig over the past month. Apart from the win against Galatasaray, there have been minimal points, where 3rd place and a ticket to play in Europe are not secured. On Friday, it was “win or lose” against Hatayspor. Besiktas responded with a 5-1 overrun (after starting at a 0-1 deficit), where even the reviled Serie A legend Ciro Immobile got the potential out of a wonderful hat-trick.

Not many minutes after the end of the game, Solskjaer had programmed himself into the city derby against Jose Mourinho, the coach Solskjaer replaced at Manchester United in 2018.
-The match will be played by two teams that are one hundred percent motivated. I know José. José knows me. This is a big derby. Even if the table situation is as it is, it does not matter. Everyone knows that this is a big and important game. I know José wants his players one hundred percent ready. I want that too,” Solskjaer said at the press conference after Friday’s game.
On Sunday 4 May, Solskjaer and Besiktas will take the bus to Fenerbahce’s home ground. There, Jose Mourinho awaits Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in what will be a battle between two managers who will show the world who decides the big games. If Solskjaer does as he did against league leader Galatasaray, this will be a game Mourinho will never forget.
