A deserved win
Arne Kind’s team has impressed from start to finish in the Dutchman’s first season in England. With only two defeats in 34 games, they have won the league and ended City’s unprecedented four-year reign.
Few thought Liverpool could fight for the top after Jürgen Klopp’s departure a year ago, but Slot has exceeded all expectations and already matched his predecessor’s number of league titles.
The 46-year-old coach is the first Dutch manager to win the Premier League, and the fifth to do so in his debut season – after José Mourinho, Carlo Ancelotti, Manuel Pellegrini and Antonio Conte.
An unparalleled season
Liverpool won their first championship in five years with great authority, while City fell away and Arsenal were unable to keep up after being hit by injuries.

The newly crowned champions can still beat City’s 91 points from last year, which would put them among the Premier League’s very best teams. Only 14 teams have scored 90 points or more in the Premier League era – including Liverpool three times under Klopp.
Van Dijk: – This is special
Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk told Sky Sports during the celebration:
“This is special and something we don’t take for granted. It’s incredible. There were a lot of emotions before the game and throughout the week, but we did the job and are really deserved champions. Liverpool is the most beautiful club in the world and we deserve all of this. Let’s enjoy the next few weeks and let it sink in.
Neville: “One of the best coaching performances of all time”
Gary Neville praised Arne Slat’s work in his first season:
“Over a full season, Arne Slat’s managerial performance is one of the best we have seen in Premier League history. I say that in terms of who he took over from – one of the greatest personalities of all time and a Liverpool icon.
“To get into that guard room and establish control and authority, while knowing that he can never do it in the same way as Klopp – it’s impressive. The way he has handled contract situations, getting the maximum out of each individual player, is a fantastic achievement.
Redknapp: – They are merciless
Former Liverpool player Jamie Redknapp called the team “merciless”:
“If I have to describe this team, it’s merciless. They have been all season. Even when they were down, they didn’t panic. They have been fantastic. This is a day for the fans.
Liverpool will formally lift the Premier League trophy after their last home game against Crystal Palace on May 25 – the first time the club’s supporters get to see their team lift the league title live since May 1990.
When was the last time Liverpool won the league?
Liverpool won their previous league championship in the delayed 2019/20 season during Covid-19, when Klopp’s team amassed 99 points on their way to the title, ending a 30-year drought for a top division championship.
With this new triumph, Liverpool underline that they are back as one of Europe’s very best clubs – and the future is bright under Arne Slot!
