Chelsea have contacted the representatives of Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens, according to German media. A potential transfer could have serious consequences for Jadon Sancho’s future career.
The 20-year-old winger Gittens has attracted interest from several English top clubs, including Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United. But Chelsea have long been most linked with him – a worrying indication of a lack of quality in Enzo Maresca’s squad despite huge investments in recent years.

According to Sky Germany, Chelsea have now started talks with Gittens’ representatives about a move to the Premier League. The London club are willing to offer an annual salary of around €5-6 million – double what he earns at Dortmund.
Jadon Sancho’s future in jeopardy
Gittens’ role at Dortmund has diminished in recent months under Niko Kovac, but a departure is not guaranteed. Chelsea will also have to agree a transfer fee with Dortmund, although the previously quoted price tag of €100 million no longer applies.
If Gittens – who followed in Sancho’s footsteps from Manchester City to Dortmund – ends up in London, it could threaten Sancho’s place in the squad.
Sancho’s big move to Manchester United has been a failure, and his current loan spell at Chelsea hasn’t been a success either. Chelsea are nevertheless obliged to buy him for up to £25 million (£20 million fixed + £5 million in bonuses).
There has been speculation that Chelsea could pay a fine of 5 million pin for breaking the deal with Manchester United. Another possibility is that the club buys Sancho and then sells him on immediately – something GIVEMESPORT has suggested.
According to their sources, Sancho could return to Dortmund for a third term, in a separate deal from the Gittens case. Gittens has recorded 12 goals and three assists in all competitions this season.
