Manchester United are beefing up their interest in Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta if they fail to secure Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap.
It is not surprising that Manchester United, who are scoring almost no goals this season, are looking to strengthen their attack. Both Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee have not lived up to expectations. But it is not only these two who have struggled, (which the table situation confirms) so there may be investments in more areas this summer.

Delap is probably in demand by several clubs after an impressive breakthrough in the Premier League. With a £30 million expiry clause becoming active following Ipswich’s relegation, the battle for his signature could be intense.
Manchester United look at Jean-Philippe Mateta as plan B if Liam Delap transfer fails
GIVEMESPORT reports that Manchester United are actively attacking reinforcements ahead of the summer transfer window, and Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta has emerged as a solid option. The Red Devils are working on backup plans in case the hunt for first priority Liam Delap does not succeed.
Mateta has 14 goals in the Premier League this season.
It is understood that United do not yet know where they stand in the battle for Delap, and if they fail to secure him this summer, they will have to find a new solution. The uncertainty surrounding Delap is why they are moving quickly to sign Wolves striker Matheus Cunha, who could also play centrally.
Manchester United’s main plan is to use Cunha in an attacking midfield role, but if they don’t get Delap, Mateta could be an option. Palace are currently trying to negotiate a new deal with the French striker, but if they fail to reach an agreement – and Mateta, who is described as “one of the best strikers in the Premier League”, wants a move – the Eagles could be forced to consider a sale.
