Richard Hughes and Arne Slot dream of bringing Newcastle’s Alexander Isak to Liverpool.

Liverpool are willing to pay large sums of money to sign Alexander Isak this summer if the opportunity arises – but with several factors making a deal with Newcastle difficult, sporting director Richard Hughes has two other top options in his sights.

The Reds are still enjoying Sunday’s impressive 5-1 win over Tottenham, a victory that secured Arne Slot’s side the Premier League title for the second time in six years. The celebrations in front of a packed Anfield will be remembered for a long time, as this was the first time since 1990 that fans could experience a title fight live at home.

But plans to ensure Liverpool’s success is not a short-lived affair are already in full swing. Slot and Hughes are preparing for a big summer of transfer activity at Anfield.

According to our transfer expert Fraser Fletcher, the club are preparing for what he describes as a “historic transfer window”, with a potential budget of around £200 million at their disposal. The goal is for Sunday’s triumph to be the start of a new era for the club.

Major investment in attack

According to The Daily Telegraph’s Chris Bascombe, Liverpool’s “most significant investment” this summer will be in attack. With Darwin Núñez’s career at Anfield thought to be over, Hughes and his team are actively working to find a replacement of a higher calibre.

Bascombe reveals that Liverpool’s dream signing is Newcastle star Isak, but they are “realistic” about the possibilities of signing him. The club considers the chances to be “slim to none” – despite a willingness to pay a huge sum to get him away from St. James’ Park.

In his article, Bascombe writes
: “Liverpool obviously consider Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak to be one of Europe’s best strikers. But they are realistic about the chances of getting him to Merseyside. The possibilities currently seem minimal, not least because Newcastle are on their way to the Champions League, which strengthens their position to reject offers for their most important player. Isak also has a long contract, and the club has ambitions to challenge Liverpool next season.”

Plan B: Ekitike as an alternative

As a result of the challenges with Isak, Bascombe claims that Liverpool are keeping a close eye on Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike as a potential option.
