Bayer Leverkusen are in full forward planning due to Xabi Alonso’s impending exit, as he gets closer and closer to a move to Real Madrid. The Basque coach has left an indelible mark on the German club, but all indications are that he is packing his bags to go to the Santiago Bernabéu at the end of the season. Therefore, Leverkusen’s management does not want to leave anything to chance and is already working discreetly to find his replacement.
One of the names that has gained momentum in recent hours is Xavi Hernández. The former FC Barcelona coach, who is currently clubless after finishing his tenure on the Culé bench, is emerging as an attractive option to maintain the attacking and possessive style of play that has characterized the team under Alonso’s leadership.
Xavi is positive about the German coaching job
According to German newspaper Kicker, Xavi has already been contacted and reportedly did not show any immediate rejection of the offer. His international experience, good English skills and football philosophy match what Leverkusen are looking for. Along with him, other options are also being considered, such as Erik ten Hag or even Imanol Alguacil, who will leave Real Sociedad at the end of the season.
