When Marcus Rashford had finished the 2023/23 season with 30 goals, the Manchester United management were highly motivated to keep suitors away. Rashford could negotiate the position of one of the club’s three highest-paid players to extend. After this, everything went straight south. Now the 27-year-old has started scoring again, but this on loan at Aston Villa. Work is underway for the final transition solution.

When Marcus Rashford stated in 2024 that he was “ready for new challenges”, Ruben Amorim replied that there are plenty of new challenges at Manchester United. The two never agreed on the way forward. Spanish and English media claimed Rashford wanted to go to Barcelona, but the financial terms could not be met. It ended at Aston Villa, something Rashford has no reason to regret. In the summer, the permanent exit from Old Trafford will come.

Many have wondered if Amorim and the United management should not hang on to Rashford and make the 27-year-old deliver as he has done with Unai Emery, but this is an outcome that is not going to happen.

And Aston Villa? The club has an option to buy £40 million, but Emery was reluctant to answer whether there will be a permanent transfer for Rashford. According to Spanish media, Rashford has returned to Barcelona to make the final transfer to the “dream club” outside Old Trafford.

According to Spanish Sport, Rashford’s representatives have now informed Barcelona management that the Englishman wants to sign with Barcelona this summer.

In order for this to be feasible, Rashford is ready to reduce his salary from Manchester United significantly.
