Pep Guardiola has promised to take a breather when he leaves Manchester City – but has not yet decided whether it means a sabbatical or something more permanent.

Guardiola extended his contract with the Etihad Stadium club in November, tying him to the club for two more seasons.

When his 11-year stay at City is over, he has full intention of retiring, as he did for a year after leaving Barcelona before becoming Bayern Munich coach in 2013. But he has failed to say whether he will leave the coaching job for good.

“After my contract with City, I’m going to stop. I’m sure of that,” he told ESPN Brasil.
“I don’t know if I’m going to retire, but I’m going to take a break.

Reflecting on his trophy-winning coaching career, which also includes periods at the top of Spanish and German football, the Catalan coach added that he is sure that the fans of the clubs he has coached have enjoyed watching his teams play.

“In the coaches’ careers, there are good and bad, the important thing is that the good ones are remembered longer,” he added.
“There are new challenges as a coach, I don’t know what will happen in the future, and in the end it doesn’t matter.

City have lagged behind this year, with 21 points behind Premier League champions Liverpool and a battle to hold on to a Champions League spot. But Guardiola claims he has learned valuable lessons along the way.

“This has been a year of great learning for me personally,” he said.
“I knew there would come a time when we would fall, but we fell hard.
“Now we have to sit down and learn, to try to understand what we need to perform in the future.
