Manchester City have been given an opportunity to secure Pep Guardiola’s biggest summer target after a significant update on a deal worth €250 million.

A giant hole to fill

Manchester City need a significant increase in quality and may already regret the decision to let Kevin De Bruyne go as a free player. The Belgium international was once again Guardiola’s saviour as City won 1-0 against Wolverhampton in the Premier League on Friday night – with De Bruyne the match-winner. A victory that increases the chance that the sky blues will be ready for the Champions League next season.

Pep Guardiola thought they had lost the race!

Replacing De Bruyne is a top priority for Guardiola this summer, and Florian Wirtz has topped the wish list for the reigning Premier League champions.

Bavaria in financial difficulties

Wirtz looked like an impossible signing for a long time after Bayern Munich reportedly agreed personal terms with the playmaker. But City’s hopes of securing the Bayer Leverkusen star have flared up again after news from Germany.

Bayern will struggle to finance the €250 million mega transfer – half of which is Wirtz’s transfer fee and the other half his salary.

According to FootMercato, Kingsley Coman has decided to refuse to leave Bayern this summer, which has put the club’s transfer plans in jeopardy. The French international earns €17 million annually and could have brought in €30-40 million in transfer fees – funds Bayern had counted on to finance the Wirtz deal.

Door opens for City

This has opened the door for Manchester City to go in for Wirtz as De Bruyne’s successor. At the same time, it is claimed that Bayern are now groping for alternative solutions to raise enough money to sign Leverkusen’s biggest star.

A potential transfer that could be one of the biggest and most costly of the summer – and which will make a clear mark on Guardiola’s next era in Manchester.
