There is nothing wrong with writing an article about Russia having discovered how fantastic Bodø/Glimt’s goalkeeper hero Nikita Haikin is. – There is little doubt that the 29-year-old is good for most national teams, including the Russian one, something that goalkeeper coach Vitaly Safonov has noticed. Also a “news” I think it’s perfectly ok that VG writes about, but…
What is bad and misleading is that he is relevant, which VG hints at by saying that a politician reacts. – As the headline is, one naturally thinks that it is a Norwegian politician who reacts. – That is not true, no Norwegian politicians have reacted where the whole article is about what is meant on the Russian side, not a word about what Haikin thinks.
He has lived in Norway for many years and is practically Norwegian. There is nothing relevant about him playing for Russia, it is simply completely out of the question.

VG writes: Haikin relevant for Russia – politician lashes out at Glimt goalkeeper Bodø
/Glimt’s goalkeeper hero Nikita Haikin (29) has become a hot name in Russia as well after big games this spring.
What the Russian politician Vitaly Milonov reacts to is Nikita Haikin’s desire to become a Norwegian citizen. Something he believes will never happen.

We welcome Vitaly Safonov to Norway and welcome to the national team. Preferably well before the summer of 2026. We are also looking forward to Thursday 8 May when Bodø/Glimt will win 5 – 2 over Tottenham at Aspmyra.
Goalkeeper coach Vitaly Safonov has confirmed to Russian Sports Express that Haikin is under consideration for the next national team squad.
Nikita Haikin came to Bodø/Glimt in March 2019, married former Love Island contestant Tanja Løvik last month and, according to his agent, Torgeir Bjarmann, wants to apply for Norwegian citizenship. He loves Norway and wants his children to grow up in the country.
Haikin’s Journey:
- Born in Israel
- Raised in Russia from the age of 2
- Youth career in England (Chelsea, Portsmouth, Reading)
- Came to Bodø/Glimt in 2019
After his heroics in Europe, Haikin has become one of the Eliteserien’s most remarkable players – both on and off the pitch.
