Trent Alexander-Arnold wants a huge pay rise at Real Madrid, after it has been confirmed that he is leaving Liverpool.

Alexander-Arnold has been the subject of constant transfer speculation throughout Liverpool’s Premier League triumph this season. While Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk extended their contracts, the England international has chosen to seek new challenges.

After a flood of rumours, Alexander-Arnold confirmed on Monday that he will not extend his involvement at Anfield, leaving as a free agent after 20 years at his childhood club.

The day after the 3-1 loss to Chelsea, he posted a lengthy statement along with an emotional video explaining the decision.

Liverpool also released an official statement, saying that the two-time Premier League winner will “leave the club with our gratitude and recognition for his contribution during a long period of success”.

So that was the money anyway

In what must be the world’s worst-kept secret, Alexander-Arnold is now ready for a new chapter in Spain at 15-time Champions League winner Real Madrid – where he will be teammates with Jude Bellingham.

Alexander-Arnold wants to sign a fat five-year contract at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Sacha Tavolieri of Sky Sport reports that he will also receive a significant pay rise compared to what he earned at Liverpool, with an annual salary of €15 million before tax – not including performance bonuses and sign-on fees.

However, this means that he will not be one of Real Madrid’s highest-paid players. Stars like Vinícius Júnior and Kylian Mbappé have higher salaries.

Could debut as early as June

Alexander-Arnold’s Liverpool contract officially expires on July 1, but according to The Sun, he could be ready for Real Madrid sooner. The club wants him to participate in the Club World Cup, which will be played in the United States from June.

If Real pay for an early transfer, Alexander-Arnold could theoretically become a Los Blancos player as early as June 1 – and be ready to face Al Hilal in the group stage in Miami on June 15.

Alexander-Arnold has made 351 appearances for Liverpool, with 23 goals and 92 assists. He can wear the red shirt three more times, including the home games against Arsenal and Crystal Palace.
