Already in April, it was confirmed that the Belgian will leave City when the season is over. De Bruyne stated in an emotional statement:
“Dear Manchester, when you see this, you probably understand where this is going. So let me get straight to the point and tell you all that these will be my last months as a Manchester City player.”
“None of this is easy to write, but as footballers we all know that this day will eventually come. That day is here – and you deserve to hear it from me first.”
He continued:
“Football brought me to all of you – and to this city. I chased a dream, not knowing that this period would change my life. This city. This club. These people gave me everything. I had no choice but to give everything back. And you know what – we won everything. Whether we like it or not, it’s time for goodbye.”
After the news became public, De Bruyne has been linked with a number of clubs, including clubs in Saudi Arabia, the United States and Europe.
Now, it is claimed that newly crowned Premier League champions Liverpool have made a shock offer for the 33-year-old player. According to Italian news agency Di Marzio, De Bruyne has received an offer from Liverpool and wants to remain in European football.
Liverpool and Manchester are two cities that are connected, so Kevin de Bruyne can actually continue to live in the fashionable Cheshire village of Prestbury just outside Manchester.
It has also been reported that Serie A side Napoli are interested in signing the midfielder.
