On Saturday, the RB Leipzig players had to leave the field at Werder Bremen with a 0-0 draw. A single point share with the club that is at the bottom of the Bundesliga table, but a loss of two points sends Red Bull’s flagship in the world of football out of the very best company. This comes four months after Jürgen Klopp took over as Global Head of Soccer.

What has happened this Saturday is that RB Leipzig have not qualified for the Champions League for the first time in seven years.

In the 2018/2019 season, the Bundesliga club played in the Europa League, after which the Red Bull club has been a fixture in the Champions League, with the straw down in the big prize box, in 2020 the club reached all the way to the semi-finals.  

RB Leipzig can still secure a ticket to the Europa League or Conference League, but this must be seen as a defeat for Leipzig, Red Bull – and Klopp.
