Pep Guardiola left Barcelona in the summer of 2012 with 3.La Liga and 2 Champions League titles on his CV and then after a year’s break took over Bayern Munich. Dani Olmo left Barcelona in 2014 without having played a single first-team game, which has plagued him until his return to Camp Nou almost a year ago.
The last 12 months have been turbulent for the 27-year-old. Dani Olmo was on top of the world as he played a key role in Spain’s triumph at Euro 2024 and secured a dream return to Barcelona on the back of his performances in Germany.
But the situation quickly turned around when Barcelona had problems registering him for La Liga, which developed into a bitter legal battle and required Spain’s national sports council to intervene.
Olmo has been able to play for Barcelona, although La Liga still disputes his eligibility. In addition, the attacking midfielder has had to contend with persistent injury problems.

When he has been on the pitch, Olmo has generally performed well. He has scored 11 goals in 36 games and provided six assists.
Given that Olmo has only been at Barcelona for a year, it comes as a bombshell that the usually reliable Matteo Moretto from Relevo reports that Manchester City want to sign the playmaker this summer.
Pep Guardiola and sporting director Hugo Viana are looking for a replacement for Kevin De Bruyne, and the former Barcelona manager is said to be “dreaming” of signing Olmo just as Olmo dreams of playing for him.
Guardiola’s first choice was originally Florian Wirtz, but for the Bayer Leverkusen star, it is either Bayern Munich or no transfer this summer. So far, the chances of a transfer look slim, as Barcelona’s current stance is that Olmo is not for sale.
However, the report acknowledges that Barcelona could be tempted to sell if City decide to show off their financial muscle. Olmo has done everything he could to return to Barcelona, so he is not expected to push for a move to England.
Still, it looks like this case could be worth keeping an eye on if Man City decide to take their interest in the 27-year-old seriously.
Transfermarkt believes Dani Olmo is worth €60 million, a sum that doesn’t scare the sky blues.
