Liverpool were not very active in the transfer market before the 2024/25 season, when Slot brought in Chiesa and Giorgi Mamardashvili, who signed a pre-agreement to join in 2025.
Chiesa, who joined Liverpool for £12.5m from Juventus, has made 13 appearances this season, including just five starts in the Premier League. His future has been the subject of intense transfer speculation, with several reports linking him to a path away from Anfield.
And now it looks like Liverpool could use the Italian winger as part of a deal to bring Ademola Lookman back to the Premier League.
This is according to Quotidiano Sportivo, who claims that Liverpool could use Chiesa as part of the payment in a transfer for Atalanta’s Lookman.
Atalanta signed Lookman from RB Leipzig for £12.6 million in the summer of 2022.
The Nigerian international, who has previously had loan spells at Fulham and Leicester City, has impressed in Italy and is a key player for Atalanta.
Lookman, 27, has Premier League experience from his time at Liverpool’s city rivals Everton.
He was under contract at Everton from 2016 to 2019, after being bought from Charlton Athletic for an initial sum of £7.5 million, before being sold to RB Leipzig.
Lookman will bolster Liverpool’s attacking options and could represent an ideal signing, as he already has experience in England’s top flight.
Slot is expected to be active in the transfer market when the window reopens.
About potential new signings, he said to Sportsbible:
“We just won the league, we were very competitive against PSG – it’s not easy to find better players who can improve us. They must be available, and we must be able to afford them.”
