It’s certainly no surprise that Canadian striker Jonathan David is set to leave Ligue 1 club Lille, but today it became official.

Most likely, it will be Serie A and Napoli that will be the next stop for the 25-year-old who has been five years at Lille. Last summer, Paris Saint-Germain were very keen to get a deal done, but David, who then felt he had everything to thank Lille for, did not want to go to a league rival.

“I know it hasn’t always been easy, but I hope my goals have given you some joy – especially when we became French champions, but also when we won the Super Cup. I think with these two trophies, we created a lot of joy and pleasure.”

“I would also like to thank all my teammates, coaches, technical team, medical staff, stewards and everyone I have met and shared moments with at the club. Thank you for everything you have given us, and for everything you have given me over the years. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
