Newcastle have already secured the signing of a Spanish talent in the summer, and now they have set their sights on another one – this time it is Joan Garcia who has caught the English club’s interest.
Last month, it was widely reported that Newcastle struck a pre-contract deal with Antonio Cordero, who will leave Málaga at the end of the season to move to England. Back then, “The Magpies” beat both Barcelona and Real Madrid to sign the teenager, and now they are ready for another duel with the Spanish big clubs.

Newcastle want to sign Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia
According to Angel Garcia (via MD), Newcastle have set their sights on signing Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia in the summer. The 24-year-old has been a sensation in La Liga this season and has several times single-handedly secured points for the Catalan club.
Barcelona have identified Garcia as a prime candidate for the goalkeeper spot, but it is not yet clear whether they will make a bid. Real Madrid are also eyeing him as a replacement for Andriy Lunin, while both Arsenal and Bayer Leverkusen have shown interest.
Newcastle can have a significant advantage
Although the competition will be tough, Newcastle have a clear advantage in the battle for Garcia. In the event of a move to St James’ Park, he will be the first goalkeeper, something that is not guaranteed at any of the other clubs mentioned. And since he wants to continue with regular playing time, he will probably prioritize a club where he will be number one.
It remains to be seen where Garcia will end up after the summer. As of now, he is unlikely to stay at Espanyol, who need to raise money to ease their finances.
