It started as a funny story with two Hollywood buddies who bought themselves a Welsh club “in the middle of nowhere”, well placed in the amateur league. Three years later and three promotions in a row, has made Welcome to Wrexham something more than a curiosity. Now games await in the division just below the world’s toughest league. It will be rigged for further promotion, now it is reported that the former Manchester United player, who Solskjaer brought up to the first team, is on Wrexham’s radar.

In October 2021, United manager Ole Gunnar Solskijær called up eight promising academy players at United for first-team training during the international break. Charlie Savage was among them, a player who was hoped at Man United would develop as “the next Mason Greenwood”, reported the Daily Mail. Solskjaer was unfortunately sacked in November, and was unable to follow up on young Savage.

Charlie Savage made his debut in the Champions League match against Young Boys in December, when he replaced Juan Mata one minute before the end. There was only one game for the central midfielder.

In 2023, Savage saw a permanent move to Reading, now the 22-year-old has 96 appearances, 12 goals and 15 assists. This season, the former United player was on the pitch in a whopping 40 League One games, two of them against Wrexham (1 win, 1 loss).

Savage has clearly impressed the Wrexham squad, with a clear potential to deliver and develop further in the Championship. Because according to Wrexham Insider, the 22-year-old is now on the wish list of the newly promoted club who are aiming for direct promotion to the Premier League.
