On Sunday, Everton supporters, players and former players took an emotional farewell to Goodison Park. The last home game was done before moving to a new fancy stadium, and it was time for speeches. When Wayne Rooney got the microphone in front of the supporters, a group of people sang along. Not exactly of the “sing-along on the border” type. Rooney smiled, thought – and gave the Everton supporters the response they loved.

Wayne Rooney is Everton’s big son, but spent almost his entire career at Manchester United. On Sunday, he was reminded of this, when he was given the floor in front of the supporters.

– Oh Manchester is full of shit.. Oh Manchester…, was the welcome to Rooney.

Rooney had his speech ready, but had to improvise to get this on track. And the answer was met with stormy cheers and laughter from the Everton supporters.

“First of all, I’m a fucking Scouser… Everton is the club I loved growing up, and I still love it. I know we’ve had our ups and downs and I played for Manchester United, but the memories from here will last a lifetime.
