The French star, a club legend and the club’s all-time top scorer, has made the decision to end his stay at the Metropolitano after the season to begin a new chapter in Major League Soccer (MLS).
Although Griezmann’s contract with Atlético runs until 2026, he has already informed the club that he wants to leave this summer. He wants to leave behind a financial compensation before he could possibly leave for free next year.

The decision, which has matured over time, is due to his personal desire to experience life in the United States – driven by a passion for American sports and MLS’ attraction to star players. In recent years, the league has welcomed big names such as Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez and Sergio Busquets.
Let’s hope that Antoine Griezmann doesn’t have any tattoos!
End of an era
Griezmann (33) has had to make do with a place on the bench in recent games, and his role under Diego Simeone seemed to be less forward-looking. In light of this, the Frenchman has chosen to end his second stint at Atlético – a club he first joined in 2014 and where he became a mainstay in the successes that have placed the team among Europe’s very best.
The relationship between the player and the club remains good, and a dignified farewell with recognition for his enormous contribution is expected.
Los Angeles FC in the driver’s seat
Most likely the next stop will be Los Angeles FC, where his compatriots Hugo Lloris and Olivier Giroud already play. Giroud has even openly expressed his desire for a reunion with Griezmann at the Californian club – reinforcing speculation that he will end up on the West Coast.
Griezmann’s departure marks the end of an era for Atlético Madrid. His leadership, dedication and goalscoring prowess have left an indelible mark on the club. Now “The Little Prince” is ready for new challenges on the other side of the Atlantic – and thus also to end his time in European football.
The official farewell is expected after the Club World Cup this summer, where he can get his last minutes in the red and white colours before the adventure in the USA begins.
