31-year-old Harry Kane, who is one of the world’s best goalscorers, signed for Bayern Munich from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2023. But disappointingly, the German big club failed to win a trophy in his first season at Bayern. – That despite an impressive 36 goals in 32 league games. Bayern in third place and had to watch as Bayer Leverkusen – led by Xabi Alonso – went undefeated through the series, winning the DFB-Pokal and reaching the Europa League final.

But the 2024/25 season was different. Bayern won the league by a 13-point margin to Leverkusen, while Kane contributed 26 league goals in 31 games.

The victory means that the England captain has finally won the first major trophy of his career.

Life in Germany, from challenge to success

Kane opened up about his future plans in an interview with BBC Sport. At first, he admitted that life in Germany was tough in the beginning:

“When we first moved to Germany, it was difficult. For the first six months, my family was still in London, and I was staying in a hotel – it was demanding to be in another country, away from them, and at the same time have to perform.”

“Now we’ve all been together in a house for over a year, the kids go to school and love it. My wife is very happy here, and we enjoy every second of it. The way the German people and the Bayern fans have welcomed us – it’s really made us feel special, not just me, but the whole family.”

Premier League record – not a priority

When asked if he would like to return to England to break Alan Shearer’s goal record (260 goals), Kane replied dismissively:

“No, I don’t really think about it. As you become more experienced in your career, you learn to focus on what you can control. Football takes you on your own journey. I really like it here, and I don’t think about being anywhere else.”

With the Bundesliga title under his belt, Kane seems to be ready for more trophies with Bayern – and a return to England does not seem to be on the cards for the time being.

Harry Kane has 213 goals in the Premier League, which means he is 47 goals short of equalling Alan Shearer’s record. With Harry Kane at 31 years old having many years left of his career, there is still time.
