When it was coming to an end for Erik ten Hag, there was talk that the Dutchman had “lost the dressing room”. In other words, players against him and a lack of confidence in the coach’s game plan, leadership style and dispositions. In the hours after the Europa League loss to Totttenham with Ruben Amorim at the helm, there is a completely different attitude towards the coach.

“We agree that he is the right coach for us,” Bruno Fernandes begins in the press zone in Bilbao.

“We know that coaches are measured by results, but we see more than that as players. We know that it’s all about bringing back optimism, and fighting for the big trophies. We all agree that he is the right man,” the United captain continues.

Who is asked what he will say if the United management considers firing Amorim.

“It’s not my decision, but I just think he’s the right man. I don’t think there’s anyone who could have come in and done better. I understand that it is difficult to understand. The club is in a situation where it is easy to change coach when the results do not go the way, but as I said, I believe that he is the right man.

Luke Shaw, who does not Portuguese, completely agrees with the captain.

“I’m 100 percent sure he’s the right manager for us. I see him every day, the standards he has, what he demands from us, the way he looks at the club, us players and the support staff,” Shaw said.
