Manager Ruben Amorim gives Alejandro Garnacho “permission” to leave Manchester United.
It is the first time in a decade that Manchester United have not qualified for any European competitions. No one knows exactly what will happen, but as it stands, there will be many who do not have a guard cabinet at Old Trafford when next season kicks off.

Conflict after the Europa League final
The Argentine international (20) appeared to be on a collision course with his manager after both he and his brother Roberto Garnacho commented on his limited playing time in the final loss to Tottenham. Garnacho was only brought on as a substitute in the 71st minute.
After the game, Goracho stated:
His brother escalated the conflict further on social media:
Amorim gives go-ahead for sale
According to The Athletic, Amorim has now informed Garnacho that he can leave. Chelsea were close to a deal with him in January, but it did not go through. Serie A champions Napoli have also shown interest in the Spaniard, who joined United from Atletico Madrid in 2020.

When asked about Garnacho before Sunday’s final Premier League game against Aston Villa, Amorim replied:
Why can Garnacho disappear?
- Homegrown player: Garnacho counts as “homegrown”, giving United greater flexibility under the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
- No European Cup next season: Amorim wants to reduce the squad size and make room for new signings.
- Tactically undesirable: Garnacho doesn’t quite fit into Amorim’s system, which has no room for a traditional winger.
Now what?
United have been linked with a number of new attacking players, including Wolves’ Matheus Cunha (£62.5m release clause). Garnacho’s departure could free up funds for a bigger signing.
