Rafael Leão has fed rumours of a possible exit from AC Milan this summer through his latest activity on social media.

The 25-year-old has been linked with a departure from the San Siro for several months, with Arsenal among the clubs considering a purchase in the summer transfer window. Chelsea are also monitoring the situation closely.

Since Sergio Conceição’s arrival as coach in December, Leão has only played a full 90 minutes in four Serie A games. He sat on the bench without getting any game time during the last game of the season – a 2-0 win over Monza on Saturday.

Instagram change causes a stir
According to The Express, Leão removed “AC Milan” from his Instagram bio after the game, which is interpreted as a strong hint that he may have played his last game for the club.

Arsenal in active talks
French outlet Foot Mercato revealed that Arsenal’s sporting director Andrea Berta has recently held phone calls with Leão, while the London club are considering a summer purchase of the former Lille winger.

Alternative targets on Arsenal’s radar
Besides Leão, Arsenal are monitoring several left-wing options, including:

  • Nico Williams (Athletic Club)
  • Rodrygo (Real Madrid)
  • Jamie Bynoe-Gittens (Borussia Dortmund)

Leão’s AC Milan legacy
If Leão leaves Milan this summer, he will do so after:

  • 260 games
  • 70 goals
  • 2 trophies
    over six relatively successful seasons.

The Portuguese joined Milan from Lille for €49.5 million in 2019. With three years left on his contract, the Italian giants hope to profit from a possible sale now.

With Milan without European Cup play next season and Leão’s limited playing time under Conceiçao, all the pieces seem in place for a summer transfer. Arsenal are clearly showing interest, but will probably have to break the bank to secure the Portuguese star player.
