Manchester City appear to be nearing their first summer transfer, after their summer target Tijjani Reijnders reportedly cancelled his holiday in order to complete the move.

After finishing third in the Premier League and running out of trophies for only the second season under Pep Guardiola, City are expected to be very active in the transfer market.

The club spent £180 million on four new players in the January window, but will now look to build up the squad under the leadership of new sporting director Hugo Viana.

Special transfer window before the Club World Cup

City’s season is not over, as they will participate in the much-discussed Club World Cup tournament in the United States. A special transfer window will open from June 1 to 10, where clubs can register new players.

According to the Daily Mail, City are actively working to secure AC Milan midfielder Tijjani Reijnders, and hope to get the deal in place before the tournament starts.

Reijnders cancels vacation plans

Now, it seems that the Dutch international is taking steps to speed up the transfer. According to Italian media, via City Xtra, Reijnders has cancelled a family holiday that was booked for early July.

The Reijnders family was supposed to go to Ibiza, but the trip seems to have been shelved – possibly to give him time to sign for City and participate in the Club World Cup.

Deal on the way – Gibbs-White also on the radar

A sum of £55 million has been mentioned for Reijnders, who scored 15 goals across competitions for Milan last season. City believe the former AZ Alkmaar player could be a key player in their midfield build-up, and according to ESPN’s Rob Dawson, the clubs are in advanced negotiations.

In addition, City Nottingham Forest’s star Morgan Gibbs-White is a main target, after they withdrew from the race for Florian Wirtz, who is going to Liverpool.

Wolves full-back Rayan Aït-Nouri is also on City’s wish list as they look to strengthen their defensive line.

Club World Cup opener against Wydad AC

City open their Club World Cup campaign against Moroccan side Wydad AC on June 18, before facing Al Ain and Juventus.
