Scott Carson is ready to leave Manchester City after six years and only two official games for the club.

The 38-year-old goalkeeper, who has previously played for Leeds and Liverpool, joined Manchester City on loan from Derby in 2019 as a third-choice goalkeeper and signed a permanent deal in 2021.

He only played one Premier League game for Pep Guardiola’s side – in the 4-3 win over Newcastle United – on the plus side!

“Important behind the scenes”
As part of the squad that won the Champions League in 2023, Carson was described by Guardiola as “very important behind the scenes” with the words: “People listen when he speaks”.

He was given one-year extensions for the last two seasons, but Manchester City now confirmed on their website that he will leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the month.

How much did Carson make at City?

  • Originally earned £25,000 a weekon loan
  • Salary increased to £30,000 by new deal in 2022
  • A total of £7 million for 108 minutes played – You can find the calculator yourself and find out how much it will be per minute.

His two fights included:

  • Full game against Newcastle (2020/21) with a saved penalty
  • Substitutes in Champions League clash against Sporting CP (2021/22)

City are aiming for a replacement
According to The Telegraph, City are now looking at Chelsea’s Marcus Bettinelli as Carson’s replacement. The 32-year-old goalkeeper has only made one appearance for Chelsea since 2021, but fits the profile of an experienced dressing room figure.

Bettinelli, who is a homegrown player, has a contract until 2026, so City will probably have to pay a small transfer fee.

Carson will be the only goalkeeper exit at City, as both Ederson and Stefan Ortega will stay at the club.
