Manchester United fans have made a bold prediction about Scott McTominay after Manchester City legend Kevin de Bruyne has agreed a move to Napoli.

Scott McTominay’s success in Italy

Last summer, McTominay left his childhood club and went to Italy in a deal worth around €30 million. Since arriving in Serie A, the 28-year-old Scottish midfielder has been a revelation under former Chelsea and Tottenham coach Antonio Conte.

He scored 13 goals and recorded six assists in his debut season. Most memorably, he scored a volley in the last round of the league as Napoli beat Cagliari to win the series by just a one-point margin to Inter Milan.

His contributions were rewarded when he was named Serie A’s Most Valuable Player (MVP), an award previously won by Cristiano Ronaldo, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Romelu Lukaku, among others.

De Bruyne on his way to Napoli

Now it looks like Manchester City legend Kevin de Bruyne will be McTominay’s teammate at Napoli.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano wrote:
“BREAKING: Kevin De Bruyne to Napoli, here we go! Finally, the green light from the Belgian star to become Italian champion. Two-year deal with an option for additional years is agreed, medical test and formal steps remain before KDB becomes a Napoli player. A huge reinforcement for Napoli, who are planning more signings.”

How have United fans reacted?

Many United fans took the news about De Bruyne as an opportunity to half-jokingly praise McTominay on social media – while also suggesting that De Bruyne will have to wait for his turn behind Romelu Lukaku in attacking midfield.

“Great opportunity for Kevin De Bruyne to learn the craft from Scott McTominay.”

“Triple winner Kevin De Bruyne will play with Scott McTominay. Completely understandable…..”

@calebrebelo_ said:
“De Bruyne will have the privilege of playing alongside McTominay.”

Will both start for Napoli?

Yes, Conte will probably find a way to play them both.

In Napoli’s last league game, they played with a 4-3-3 system, with McTominay on the left side of the midfield trio alongside former Chelsea and Brighton player Billy Gilmour and Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa.

Anguissa has been linked with a move away from Napoli this summer, which will open up space for De Bruyne in midfield. The Belgian star can also play on the right wing in place of Matteo Politano, who only recorded three goals and four assists in Serie A last year.

Another story Premier League fans should keep an eye on is De Bruyne’s interaction with teammate Romelu Lukaku.
