Manchester City are close to signing Rosenborg’s great talent Sverre Nypan, according to David Ornstein.
The 18-year-old midfielder’s future has taken a new turn. In January, Nypan visited several European clubs, mainly in England, and it was believed that he would soon choose his next employer.

Despite interest from both Arsenal and City Football Group-owned Girona, he chose to wait until the summer before making a decision. This opened the door for Aston Villa, who made significant progress in trying to sign him.
At first, it was thought that Nypan was ready for a move to Villa Park this summer, but now it seems that Manchester City have caught up in the race. According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, City are in the process of securing a deal to sign the teenager.
The deal is approaching
Personal terms with Nypan remain to be finalized, but an agreement with Rosenborg seems to be in place.
Record transfer for the Eliteserien
Ornstein does not reveal exact details about the transfer fee, but states that it is expected to be a record deal for the Norwegian elite series. The biggest so far is David Datro Fofana from Molde to Chelsea for about 120 million euros.
Nypan is not expected to be part of Pep Guardiola’s squad in the coming season. Instead, he will be sent out on loan to continue his development in an environment where he gets guaranteed playing time. Girona can thus still get him in their squad.

One of Europe’s greatest talents
Nypan has established himself as one of Europe’s most exciting talents in recent seasons, having played regular first-team football for Rosenborg since he was 16 years old.
He has already made 70 appearances for the first team, with 14 goals and 11 assists from midfield. His versatile style of play and offensive contributions have led to comparisons with compatriot Martin Ødegaard.
