Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski could have seen his international career end this week, but it will now continue a little longer after he won a power struggle against his national team manager.
A few days ago, it became known that Lewandowski would not consider playing for Poland as long as Michał Probierz was coach. This came after the two fell out following the veteran’s decision not to make available for Poland’s international matches this month – something that was not well received by the coach.

Poland national team manager resigns after altercation with Lewandowski
Lewandowski publicly came out against Probierz after this episode, which sparked a power struggle within the Polish Football Federation. A match the Barcelona striker eventually won, as it has now been confirmed (via Sport) that the national team coach has chosen to resign.
Probierz announced the decision in a statement through the Polish Football Federation:
“I have come to the conclusion that my resignation in the current situation is the best solution for the national team. Having this position was the fulfillment of my professional dreams and the greatest honor of my life.”
“I would like to thank all my co-workers and employees of the Polish Football Federation. I could always count on you. Thank you for the trust from the president and the board of the association. Of course, I would also like to thank all the players I have had the pleasure of working with. I want to cross my fingers for you, because the national team is our common national pride. Finally, I would like to thank our fantastic supporters. You support us in good times and bad. Wherever the national team played, you could hear their support.”
Barcelona will surely be relieved
Lewandowski’s decision not to attend the national team gathering was probably something Barcelona appreciated, even if the ensuing drama was not ideal. In any case, this chapter is now closed.
