If you take a look at 29-year-old Mathias Normann’s career in recent years, you are left with the feeling that a great talent has been wasted with a series of miserable choices.
It really became visible when the Norwegian defensive midfielder chose to play football in Russia after the invasion of Ukraine and chose to flee when the bombs came too close to his home in Moscow. From one dictatorship to another!.

His last season ended with relegation from the Saudi Professional League after finishing last. In total, Normann recorded 44 league games and two goals during his stay on the Arabian Peninsula.
– Mathias Normann was on loan in Moscow from FK Rostov, his club took legal action and in April the Russian club was awarded compensation of 3 million euros in the Court of Arbitration for Sport after illegally breaking the contract.
National team status
Normann has 12 A-caps for Norway, but was excluded from the national team squad during his stay in Russia due to the war in Ukraine. When the Saudi transfer became known, national team manager Ståle Solbakken stated:
“I think it’s unfortunate. After his stay in Russia, I wish he had chosen something else, but I’m not surprised that Norwegian players are now becoming part of the Saudi Arabian league.

Career stations Normann
made his mark in Bodø/Glimt from 2013-2017 before trying his luck in England with Brighton and Norwich. Now he is once again on the threshold of a career choice after the Saudi finish.
