John Arne Riise and Dirk Kuyt thundered on in the Liverpool shirt, after the end of their careers and with the transition to their coaching career, there has been less “thundering”. Riise is doing his stuff, Kuyt is struggling to keep his jobs. On Friday, another chapter was closed for the Dutchman.
How we loved Dirk Kuyt in the Liverpool shirt together with John Arne Riise. Five years after the Dutchman retired as a player, the offer of the first step in a coaching career came. Kuyt got the big opportunity as head coach of ADO Den Haag in 2022 after getting to test himself as an U19 coach at Feyenoord. We had high expectations for the Liverpool legend, but the club management clearly had too high expectations. Because after 17 games as head coach of the Dutch club, Kuyt was fired.

Three days before New Year 2023, Kuyt was hired as the new head coach of the club with the somewhat peculiar name Beerschot. Short-term contract for the rest of the season, Kuyt took on the task halfway through the start of the season. The Belgian second division club had struggled, but with Kuyt at the reins it turned around – promotion to the top league in Belgium!
The season in the top division was not a success with direct relegation. The Beerschot management blamed Kuyt, on Friday came the message that they will not extend the contract of the Liverpool legend.
