Chelsea could receive over £8 million from Liverpool this summer due to a smart sell clause.

Liverpool are expected to make a “significant offer” for one of their top targets this summer, as they look for a replacement for Jarell Quansah. That is proving to be an advantage for their Premier League rivals Chelsea.

It has been busy at Anfield so far this summer:

  • Jeremie Frimpong was brought in from Leverkusen.
  • Florian Wirtz was signed for a club-record £100 million (+ 16 million in bonuses).
  • Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth is also close to a transfer for around £45 million.
  • Quansah is in “final negotiations” about a transfer to Leverkusen for around £30 million (+ 5.5 million in bonuses).

Marc Guehi – next target, with Chelsea clause

According to The Telegraph, Liverpool are now ready to make a “significant offer” for Marc Guehi, Crystal Palace’s captain. Even though Guehi only has one year left on his contract, Palace can still make a good profit from him.

  • Tottenham had a bid of £55 million + 15 million in bonuses rejected in January.
  • Newcastle have also seen several bids rejected.

But here’s where Chelsea’s “brilliant” clause comes in:
When they sold Guehi to Palace in 2021 for £18 million, they secured a 20% resale share. This means that if Liverpool (or any other club) pays £40 million, Chelsea will receive £8 million.

Guehi’s future plans

Guehi has kept the doors closed on the speculation
: “The most important thing for me is to give everything for this club. I work hard every day and this club has given me so much. I still have a contract here, so my focus is here.”

He added:
“For me, it’s about performing as well as I can – and then we’ll see what the future brings.”
