Barcelona continues its strategy of scouting and bringing in the world’s best teenage talent, and sporting director Deco has once again set his sights on a goal from his native Brazil. This time it is 17-year-old Zé Lucas who is in the spotlight.
Since becoming sporting director, Deco has worked to strengthen the club’s scouting work outside of Spain and secure the biggest talents in football. This has resulted in signings such as Mikayil Faye, David Oduro and Ibrahim Diarra in the last two years. He has also focused more on South America, and recently he took João Vitor on trial.

Barcelona close to signing Zé Lucas
Now Barcelona are aiming for an even more sought-after talent in Zé Lucas. The teenager, who currently plays for Sport Recife in Brazil, already has a professional contract until 2028 and has made 17 appearances for the club’s first team. This includes 432 minutes in Brazil’s Serie A this season, and Zé Lucas has started five of the team’s last six games.
According to Marca, Barcelona are in advanced negotiations for Zé Lucas, and after talks in recent weeks, they expect to be able to finalize a deal.
Captain of Brazil’s next generation
Zé Lucas is captain of Brazil’s U17 national team and has made five appearances for the young Canaries. He also played a key role when Brazil won the U17 South American Championship earlier this year – a tournament where Barcelona had scouts in place.
Zé Lucas already measures 188 cm and has started to make his mark at senior level. He plays as a defensive midfielder and stands out with his ball handling and precision in the passing game, a profile and position that has become very expensive in the transfer market.
