Harvey Elliott scored one of the best goals of the summer at the U21 European Championships, just hours after a Premier League club reportedly gave up on their bid to sign the Liverpool midfielder.

The 22-year-old scored twice on Wednesday afternoon as England secured their place in the European Championship final after a hard-fought 2-1 win over the Netherlands.

Elliott, who has four goals for the Young Lions this summer, has been one of the tournament’s most prominent players as speculation continues over his uncertain future at Liverpool.

Liverpool have reportedly put a price tag of £40 million on the former Fulham player, which has “deterred” Wolves from making an attempt, according to journalist Dean Jones.

“Wolves were put off by Harvey Elliott’s price tag when they approached about a deal,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “Brighton are showing greater willingness to meet a valuation of £40 million.”

Last month, Sky journalist Florian Plettenberg reported that Elliott, who was once described as a “sensational talent” by Jürgen Klopp, is being closely watched by several interested clubs.

“A departure for Harvey Elliott is possible,” . “There are many interesting inquiries, and conversations are ongoing. Liverpool will not stand in the way if a suitable offer comes. His contract runs until 2027.”

The attacking midfielder, who joined Liverpool in 2019, made 28 appearances in all competitions for the Reds in the 2024/25 season, but most of them from the bench.

In fact, he only started six games, including one in the Premier League.

After Arne Slot’s team celebrated their Premier League triumph in front of a cheering Anfield crowd last month, Elliott took to Instagram to write an emotional message.

“Memories for life. Thank you, Reds,” he wrote.

During the celebrations, Elliott hinted to LFCTV that his time at Liverpool could be coming to an end, saying that “you never know what’s going to happen” amid rumours about his future.

“This time it feels like I’ve been more involved in winning the league,” he said, referring to the club’s Premier League title in 2019/20. “The last time we won it, I was still a young boy – I think I only played four games or something like that. Now it definitely feels like I’ve been more involved.”

“Since coming back from injury, I’ve been in every squad. Just being a part of it, the traveling, the away games, everything but the game itself – it feels much bigger this time. I try to enjoy every single moment, because you never know what’s going to happen.”

He added, “You can’t take these moments for granted. You just have to enjoy it as much as you can – and celebrate just as hard.”
