Alexander Isak has established himself as the biggest striker in the Premier League together/under Erling Haaland. For Newcastle a match-winner, for Liverpool a must-have striker. This summer, Liverpool have intensified their pursuit by signing the Swedish international, even after shelling out around €150 million for Florian Wirtz. Newcastle have sent signals about what it will take for Liverpool to even talk about starting the season with Isak in the red shirt.

The Athletic journalist David Ornstein gives an update on the situation, describing Newcastle with the best cards in their hand:

“They’re in a strong position with over three years left on his [Isak’s] current contract, as part of which he’s already getting paid well… They will also have no problem offering more – he is at the center of the ambitious Saudi Arabia-led project… It could take £150 million just to start a conversation (about Isak signing), Ornstein doses.

He firmly believes Isak is in no hurry to leave St. James’ Park.

-From the player’s point of view, he has secured top football with Newcastle’s qualification for next season’s Champions League, and he won the club their first trophy in a long time. He seems to be happy – always with a smile on his face,” says the English journalist.
