New Tottenham manager Thomas Frank has given the go-ahead for one of the potentially most spectacular transfers of the summer, after a Premier League rival reduced the player’s release clause by a whopping £25 million.
Tottenham have already spent £60m to turn the loan deals for Kevin Danso and Mathys Tel into permanent transfers, as well as a £5m deal for Japanese defender Kota Takai.
It is clear that Frank wants at least one new striker to Tottenham this summer, with links to the likes of Eberechi Eze, Bryan Mbeumo and Antoine Semenyo.

But now West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus has emerged as a surprising target, despite the fact that there have hardly been any direct transfers between the two clubs since the Premier League began in 1992/93. Only five players have moved from West Ham to Tottenham in this period, most recently Scott Parker in 2011.
Kudus transition could become a reality
Initial rumours about Kudus seemed unlikely, but Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed that a deal could be possible, as Kudus is open to a transfer. According to reports, West Ham are also willing to negotiate well below the player’s £85 million release clause.
The Guardian reports that West Ham are ready to sell Kudus for £60 million – a sum that is affordable for Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy. Frank has also given the go-ahead for the transfer.

A controversial move from West Ham to Tottenham could be a major triumph for Frank, especially considering that clubs such as Chelsea and Newcastle are also considering Kudus.
Frank impressed by Kudus
Frank is said to be a big fan of Kudus’ abilities, and his versatility allows him to play in multiple positions along the attacking line. The Ghanaian international is seen as a potential replacement for Tottenham legend Son Heung-min, who is still linked with a departure this summer.
Although Kudus only recorded five goals and four assists last season, Frank believes he has the potential to reach double figures in both categories.
West Ham forced to sell
West Ham’s willingness to sell is partly due to fears of violating the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules. There have also been questions about Kudus’ attitudes.
The Guardian adds that West Ham “would rather not sell to Tottenham because of the rivalry between the clubs” but that they “are willing to be pragmatic” to avoid punishment from the Premier League.
Tottenham must sell to buy
Tottenham have the funds for one or two big signings after returning to the Champions League, but also need to sell players to balance the accounts. Besides Son, Brazilian striker Richarlison is also expected to leave the club this summer to revitalize his career elsewhere.
