Bayern Munich legend Thomas Müller has immediately reacted to the speculation that he could consider renewing his career at his old suitor Manchester United – while the veteran has told Liverpool exactly what they can expect from British record signing Florian Wirtz.

Manchester United have long had an interest in the 35-year-old striker, who has spent his entire career at the German giants. There, Müller has amassed an impressive 755 games and 250 goals over 17 years in the first team, which has also resulted in a total of 33 major titles.

However, after Bayern Munich chose not to extend his contract, Müller is now on a free transfer and can choose his next club without a transfer fee. He has often been linked with Manchester United, especially under Louis van Gaal – who worked with him at Bayern Munich.

However, there have been strong rumours that Müller could finally make the long-awaited switch to Old Trafford this summer, while the experienced Germany international (131 appearances) is considering a final career end.

But while there has also been speculation that he might retire, Müller responded in a funny way when asked about a possible move to Ruben Amorim’s team.

“yes, I’ve thought about it,” Müller told CBS Sports when asked about the historical links to United.

“There were some moments I thought it would be nice to experience.”

When asked if a move to United seemed “appealing”, his answer was particular:

“Many times,” he said, before asking, “Or do you mean now?”

He quickly dismissed all thoughts of a possible transfer:

“Well? No, no. I’m not the right player for them and they’re not the right club for me.”

And with a gloomy picture of the future of Amorim’s team, he concluded:

“They don’t want to have fun, and I don’t want to have fun – so it’s not a match!”

Müller thinks Wirtz will succeed at Liverpool

Although Müller is unlikely to be seen in the Premier League this summer, another German star has already arrived: Florian Wirtz, who has signed for Liverpool’s arch-rivals in a British record transfer worth £116 million (€140 million) from Bayer Leverkusen.

Müller has met the 22-year-old several times in recent seasons, and the veteran believes his compatriot will be a huge success at Anfield.

“I think Florian will fit in everywhere, because he’s not only a good footballer – a very good footballer, in my opinion – but he’s also mentally strong,” Müller said.

“The price tag at the end… We are a bit used to dealing with it. Expectations are high, but €150 million is unrealistic anyway – it’s just a number between the clubs.”

“Who can really believe what €150 million means? For €150 million, you don’t get a Neymar, but how many trees can you plant? How are you going to measure what €150 million gives you? Some things you can’t get for €150 million, other things you get easily.”

“At the end of the day, you shouldn’t judge anyone by the price tag. Maybe he needs time to adapt because the game is different. But German players who have gone to the Premier League in my career have always adapted well – they get even better. So maybe this is a good choice… Not for us as a club, but we have to accept it and beat him next year.”
