Casper Tengstedt’s career takes another step further. The former Rosenborg striker, who was signed by Benfica for €7 million in 2023, is now on the verge of a new club move – and it won’t be the first time since leaving the Eliteserien.

Tengstedt’s time at Benfica was marked by some excellent moments, including when he secured victory against Sporting in injury time, but after 35 games and only 4 goals, it became clear that the Dane needed more playing time. As a result, he was loaned out to Italian side Hellas Verona last summer.

Impressive in Serie A
In Verona, the 25-year-old Dane has shown his work. With 6 goals in 25 games in Serie A last season, he has convinced several clubs, even if Verona did not exercise the purchase option. According to renowned Italian transfer journalist Nicolò Schira, Genoa are now in active talks with Benfica about a loan deal for the striker.

The RBK time as a springboard
Tengstedt’s short but intense period at Rosenborg (2022-2023) was the key to his big transfer. With 15 goals in 14 games in the 2022 Eliteserien, he became one of the league’s most feared attacking players before Benfica came on the scene with a solid offer.

Now the Dane is facing another career choice. Genoa, who finished in a respectable 11th place in Serie A last year, could be the perfect place for Tengstedt to further develop. With his combination of physical strength and technique, he is well suited to the Italian league’s style of play.

For RBK fans, there will always be a “what if” question related to Tengstedt. Had he stayed in Trondheim longer, he might have helped the club to more titles – but at the same time, the sale to Benfica was a very good deal for Rosenborg.

Now RBK supporters are surely following with interest the Dane’s further career path, which could take him to Genoa’s historic Luigi Ferraris stadium – an arena where several Scandinavian players have excelled over the years.
