Roger Federer has written himself into the history books again. According to Bloomberg, the Swiss tennis legend has reached a financial milestone with a fortune of over one billion dollars.

With an estimated net worth of around $1.3 billion, the 43-year-old becomes only the fourth athlete ever to achieve this status – joining basketball legends Michael Jordan and LeBron James, as well as golf star Tiger Woods.

An unrivalled tennis career
Federer’s financial success builds on one of the most decorated tennis careers of all time:

  • 20 Grand Slam titles (2003-2018)
  • Record-keeping 310 weeks as world number one
  • $130.6 million in prize money alone
  • 24 years as a professional player (1998-2022)

But it is Federer’s business acumen that has really transformed him into a billionaire:

Lucrative sponsorship deals and smart investments
While prize money makes up a small part of the wealth, the main income comes from:

  • Long-term partnerships with Rolex, Mercedes-Benz and Uniqlo
  • A strategic investment in the Swiss shoe brand On Running
  • Ownership of 3% of On shares (valued at at least $500 million)

There are fewer than 3,000 people in the world who have achieved to become billionaires in dollars.
