The tennis star is richer than legends such as Roger Federer and Serena Williams.

A Wimbledon star who has been “named” the world’s richest tennis player, according to reports, has enough money to buy Manchester United.

Since Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS took over parts of Manchester United in February last year, it is safe to say that they have not exactly made themselves popular with the club’s fans.

In his 18 months at the club, Ratcliffe has been involved in laying off almost 500 employees, while the club experienced its worst Premier League season since the league was founded in 1992.

With this in mind, many fans have already called on Ratcliffe and INEOS to leave the club and called for a new investor before next season. While there are no parties yet interested in joining Manchester United, there is one Wimbledon star who is so rich that she could buy a stake in the club herself.

When Wimbledon kicked off on Monday morning, some of the biggest tennis names arrived in London to take part in the long-awaited championship.

Among them was the women’s world number 3, Jessie Pegula, who suffered a shock exit already in the first round after losing to Italy’s Elisabetta Cocciaretto.

But the American is unlikely to be too upset, because while she undoubtedly wants to compete for Grand Slam titles for her own pride, she has more than enough money that she doesn’t have to rely on success on the court for income.

In fact, Pegula and her family have so much money that the combined amount exceeds what Roger Federer, Serena Williams, Carlos Alcaraz and Emma Raducanu have combined.

Although the 31-year-old himself reportedly has a net worth of around $13 million (which is nowhere near Federer or Williams, much less the two combined), the family has a net worth of over $7.5 billion (£5.5 billion), making them far richer than any tennis player.

And with Manchester United currently valued at around $6.6 billion (£5.2 billion), the Pegula family would easily have enough money to buy not just a stake in the Premier League club, but the entire club.

Unfortunately for United fans, Pegula and his family don’t seem to be interested in buying United, so for now, they’re stuck with the Glazer family and Ratcliffe.
