Besiktas agreed to sign Benfica’s Orkun Kökçü for just over €30 million, but first a loan period must be completed.
In his youth, he played for PSV Eindhoved for the Netherlands, but then in 2019 he switched to the Turkish national team. Orkun Kökçü has never before played for a Turkish club.
Besiktas and Portuguese club Benfica have reached a full agreement on the transfer of Turkish international Orkun Kökçü. The news was first reported by Türkiye Today on Friday.

The 24-year-old creative midfielder has been linked with Besiktas for several weeks and now manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has put in place a very important and flexible player.
According to the agreement, Besiktas will first sign Kökçü on loan with a mandatory purchase clause. Besiktas will pay a fixed sum of €25 million to secure Kökçü permanently at the end of the season.
An additional €5 million in performance-based bonuses could increase the total package to €30 million.
Turkish journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu also confirmed the deal’s structure on social media, stating that it consists of a €5 million loan and a commitment to buy the player for €25 million by the end of next season.
Kökçü’s career
Orkun Kökçü started his professional career with Feyenoord in the Netherlands. After a distinguished spell in which he became club captain, he joined Benfica in the summer of 2023 for almost €30 million.
Last season, Kökçü made 55 appearances across all competitions for Benfica, scoring 12 goals and providing 11 assists.
He has played 41 caps for Turkey’s national team and is known for his versatility, as he can play both as a central midfielder and on the wings.
