Real Madrid have secured their third defensive signing in the summer transfer window with the arrival of Álvaro Carreras.
Benfica have given in their race to keep the Spanish left-back after including him in the squad for the Club World Cup.

The Portuguese giants confirmed that Real Madrid were interested in bringing Carreras back to the Spanish capital – he previously played for the club at youth level – but their initial offer was rejected.
Carreras has since taken a summer break, but now that the Club World Cup is, the transfer has now been completed.
Real Madrid secures Carreras transfer
Real Madrid initially hoped to complete a transfer for around €40 million, but Benfica rejected all negotiations under his €50 million exit clause in Lisbon.
Club legend Rui Costa and head coach Bruno Lage indicated in June that they would not sell the 22-year-old player.

The situation has changed little since then, and the expiration clause will be paid, but Real Madrid has reached an agreement to pay the full amount in installments.
Consequences for Garcia and Mendy
Carreras’ arrival will clear new questions about the future of Fran García and Ferland Mendy, both of whom are linked to possible departures.
García offered a way out to Serie A
García played all of Real Madrid’s six games in the Club World Cup and impressed at times, while Mendy was injured.
However, with the expected reduction in playing time, the Spanish international is looking for new challenges.
According to reports from Diario Sport, Serie A giants AC Milan are preparing a €20 million offer to bring him to the San Siro, after current left-back – and former Real Madrid player – Theo Hernández has accepted an offer from Saudi side Al Hilal.
