Manchester United have decided to end Antony’s time at Old Trafford and have set the price at €58 million.

The arrival of Rubén Amorim to United’s coaching staff has been crucial to the Brazilian winger ending up on the list of players to be sold. This completely rules out the possibility of Betis negotiating another loan spell, as the Andalusian club does not have the necessary financial means for a transfer of that size.

Antony, 25 years old and under contract until 2027, had an outstanding loan spell at Real Betis in the latter part of last season. His stats were more than positive: nine goals and five assists in 26 appearances – performances that increased his value in the European market.

The Premier League and Bundesliga are battling it out if Antony
Betis hoped to bring the Brazilian player back, but United’s high rating makes any manoeuvring difficult, even in the form of a loan. In the meantime, the player has aroused the interest of several clubs with greater financial muscle. Newcastle, Brighton, Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig appear to be the main candidates to secure him, and are willing to negotiate a sum close to what the English club demands.

For Manchester United, parting with Antony will not only ease their wage bills, but also allow them to finance new signings that Rubén Amorim believes are necessary to reshape the team. At the same time, the Brazilian player is open to a new chapter elsewhere, where he can gain continuity and regain the prominence that once made him one of the club’s most expensive signings ever.
