Liverpool originally had Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak at the top of their list of attackers, but the Magpies’ reluctance to sell has forced the English champions to turn their attention to Ekitike.
Liverpool took little time to agree personal terms with the Frenchman, who has made it clear that he is eager to be part of Arne Slot’s team.

On Saturday evening, it was reported that Liverpool had agreed on the framework for a deal with the German club.
Frankfurt coach Dino Toppmöller appeared to confirm Ekitike’s imminent departure after Saturday’s friendly against FSV Frankfurt.
Ekitike’s move to Anfield now appears to be coming to an end, after Florian Plettenburg reported that the two clubs reached a “full agreement” after new negotiations on Sunday.
The agreed transfer fee could reportedly reach up to €95 million, including bonuses, and a medical test is expected to take place in the near future.
The 23-year-old striker is set to sign a six-year contract as soon as the medical examination and necessary paperwork are completed.
Liverpool’s Bundesliga shopping
Ekitike will be the third player to join Liverpool from the Bundesliga in this transfer window.
The club previously spent £29.5 million on Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen, before signing Florian Wirtz from the same club for £116 million.
Now, it looks like Liverpool are ready to invest significantly in Ekitike, having been impressed by his performances last season.
The Frankfurt striker scored 22 goals and provided 12 assists in 48 games, helping the team to a third-place finish in the Bundesliga and a place in the Europa League quarter-finals.
This will be Ekitike’s first stint in the Premier League in his career, having previously played in France, Denmark and Germany.
