After four years of rowing back and forth to training for Venice, the Norwegian left winger Dennis Tørset Johnsen signed for Cremonese.

On Sunday, Dennis Tørset Johnsen and his Cremonese teammates celebrated a dramatic promotion to Italian Serie A after a nerve-wracking qualifying final against Spezia.

After a goalless first leg at home in Cremona, Spezia took control in the second leg. Manuel De Luca initially made it 0-1 midway through the first half, before Michele Collocolo and De Luca himself increased to 0-3 in the final minutes.

With ten minutes left of regulation time, it looked to be decided, but two quick goals by Francesco Pio Esposito (83rd) and Luca Vignali (85th) put the game on the boil again.

In injury time, both Vignali (Spezia) and Marco Nasti (Cremonese) received red cards in heated scenes, but there were no more goals.

Johnsen – an important piece
Dennis Tørset Johnsen played the entire game and was one of several who received a yellow card in the overtime chaos.

The season has been solid for Johnsen, with 31 league games for Cremonese who finished fourth in Serie B. In the promotion play-offs, the team first took a convincing semi-final victory over Juve Stabia, before securing promotion against Spezia.

Sassuolo and Pisa had already secured direct promotion as the league’s top two teams.

Thus, Tørset Johnsen is ready for Italian top-flight football next season – a milestone in the career of the 26-year-old Norwegian international.
