A surprising name has emerged as the favourite to replace Arne Slot as Liverpool manager after the sad defeat to PSV.
On Wednesday night, Liverpool suffered another heavy defeat when they lost 4-1 to Dutch club PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League match at Anfield.
This marks the third consecutive defeat for the Reds, who have now conceded seven goals while scoring just one goal in the three games, two of which were at home.

As expected, further pressure is being put on Liverpool manager Slot as a result, with many calling for the Dutchman to be sacked just seven months after he led them to the Premier League title last season.
And as the pressure on Slot continues to build, a surprising new name has emerged as the favourite to replace him as Liverpool manager.
Ever since Liverpool’s 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest in the Premier League last weekend, several big names have been linked with taking over Sot’s job.
Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola and Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner are among the favourites to take over on Liverpool’s bench, but it is former player Xabi Alonso who is considered the most likely candidate.

Despite impressing so far since taking over as Real Madrid manager in the summer, Alonso is also facing uncertainty over the future of his role.
After his success with Bayer Leverkusen, a return to Anfield was certainly on the cards this summer before Xabi Alonso chose Real Madrid and Liverpool went for Arne Slot.
Poor results recently, combined with several reports that the Spaniard has dropped out with several key players in Real Madrid’s dressing room, including players such as Vinicius Jr, has led to some pressure building up on Alonso.
Therefore, the odds currently suggest that Alonso could make the spectacular switch by leaving Real Madrid and returning to Liverpool, and he is listed as a 3/1 favourite to replace Slot.
But while Slot led Liverpool to a brutal 4-1 defeat, Alonso led the Spanish giants to a 4-3 victory over Greek club Olympiakos, where all four goals were scored by superstar Kylian Mbappé.
But Alonso is not the only manager rated by Sportbible at 3/1 to take over as Liverpool boss, as former manager Jürgen Klopp, who left the club at the very end of the 2023/24 season, is the overall favourite to make a spectacular return to Anfield.
Currently, Klopp works as head of global football at Red Bull, a role he started in January this year after leaving Liverpool, admitting that he was “starting to run out of energy”.
Recently, when asked if he would ever consider returning to lead Liverpool, the German refused to rule out the possibility, despite the fact that it currently seems unlikely.
“I said I would never coach another team in England, so that means if [I returned], it’s Liverpool,” he said on the Diary of a CEO podcast.
“So, yes, theoretically it’s possible.”
