Clear favorite in the battle for Gyökeres

According to a new report, there is now a clear favourite in the race to sign Viktor Gyökeres, as one of the summer’s most talked-about transfer sagas is finally coming to an end.

Gyökeres remains one of the world’s most sought-after strikers. The 26-year-old Swede, who has scored an impressive 97 goals in 102 appearances for Sporting CP, continues to attract interest from several of Europe’s top clubs.

A few days ago, Portuguese A Bola claimed that Arsenal were best placed to sign him, after he was asked “if he likes London” in a post-match interview. Chelsea also sent a formal request to Sporting about his availability.

Serie A giants Juventus also approached the Portuguese club about a possible transfer, but it now appears that a reunion with former manager Rúben Amorim is on the horizon, while Manchester United continue their search for a goal-scoring striker.

Sky Sports claim that Manchester United are ready to beat Arsenal in the race for Gyökeres, with Sporting willing to accept a transfer fee close to £60m for the goal-scoring Swede.

The report also reveals details from United’s latest quarterly report, where among other things, reductions in the wage budget have given the club room to strengthen the squad this summer.

After initially having reservations due to United’s lack of Champions League qualification, Gyökeres reportedly changed his mind about a move to Old Trafford. According to The Mirror, a transfer is now a “real possibility”.

Arsenal are also on the hunt for a new striker this summer, but it seems that Gyökeres is no longer their first choice.

According to Fabrizio Romano, “The Gunners” are advancing in negotiations with RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Šeško, where “discussions are underway and going well” between all parties involved.

United have also been following Šeško’s situation closely, but it seems that the Slovenian striker is on his way to North London.

Gyökeres keeps the doors open

When Gyökeres was asked about his future after winning the double with Sporting, he replied:

“We’ll see. It’s hard for me to say anything, because in football you never know what’s going to happen this summer. So for me to say anything other than that is impossible.”

“I don’t know, I’m just focusing on this. I’ve tried to concentrate on the last few games because they’re so important and I don’t want to think about anything else. So yes, if something is true, we’ll see this summer.”

With Manchester United as clear favourites and a transfer fee of around £60 million, the Swede’s future could be decided soon. This could be one of the summer’s most exciting transfers.
