Last week, the United boss went out and mentioned Jadon Sancho. There was little doubt about how he viewed Sancho’s contribution to Manchester United: “Take Sancho, who plays for Chelsea, as an example. We’re paying half the salary and we’re paying £17 million to sell him this summer. It will take time for us to move on from the past,” Ratcliffe told Neville on The Overlap. It was therefore some United supporters who choked when reports trickled out that Chelsea could send Sancho back to Old Trafford.
Ben Jacobs at Givemesport is now reassuring United supporters. Jadon Sancho will not be sent back to Ruben Amorim after the end of the season, it simply costs too much.
Jacobs reports Sancho and Chelsea did not agree on a long-term contract when a lease was agreed, Chelsea have negotiated a transfer fee with United of what could be up to £30 million, but are said to have a clause with the option to buy out of the commitments.
According to the journalist, the return of Sancho means that Chelsea will have to pay what United have covered in wage costs for the rental period, in addition to a hefty penalty fee. Jacobs believes it is completely unlikely that Chelsea will go this route. Although Sancho has partially withered after an impressive start at Stamford Bridge, now with just 2 goals and 6 assists in 28 games, the cost of sending the 24-year-old back to United is simply too great.
Not exactly a good starting point that Jadon Sancho and Chelsea are “forced” to continue the employment relationship because the option is too expensive. For us, this smells of Sancho trouble at Chelsea as well.
